Controversial, I know. With the social media boom a lot of businesses have wanted to be on social media (but not actually be on it themselves).
I hear time and time again, “I just don’t have time to be messing around on Twitter and Facebook!” and “I just don’t have time for social media.”
Here’s my view.
Social media is a 24/7 networking event.
You can dip in and out any time you want and you can choose who you engage with. At the end of the day you are on social media to make money. In a real (offline) networking event, you go there to do business. You go to represent your business. It’s exactly the same principle in social media. Whoever is tweeeting or posting for you is representing your business.
Outsourcing your social media is exactly the same as outsourcing your networking.
Anyone in their right mind would never send a marketing company to a networking event to represent them. Why? Because it’s your business. Only you can represent you. Bigger companies may send their employees to network but that’s different – they work for you. They are passionate about your company.
To say you don’t have time for social media is the same as saying that you don’t have time to market your business. It’s as simple as that. It may sound harsh but unfortunately that is the reality. Social media is a fantastic way to reach millions of people for FREE! Never before has there been such an opportunity. Please! Don’t miss your opportunity!
