A common question I get asked is, “When is the best time of the day to tweet?” And the answer is, “It depends.”
1. Marketing Strategy:
Firstly it depends on your marketing strategy. What are you using Twitter for? It is to be conversational? Is it to share content like blogs, videos etc? Is it brand name awareness? Is it customer retention?
As you can see all these different strategies would require you to tweet at different times.
If you were sharing a blog you’ve written , then you probably wouldn’t share it around 2300. Similarly, if you want to be conversational with people and most of your followers are at work 0900-1700 then tweeting during office hours probably isn’t a good idea.
Decide what you are actually using Twitter for. This will give you an indication of when is the best time to tweet.
2. Free Tools To Measure Engagement:
There are a number of free online tools you can use to measure when the best time for you to tweet is. They take into account how much engagement you get from your followers – i.e. @mentions and retweets and will determine when your followers are the most likely to engage with you.
Some of the best tools I have found are When To Tweet and TweetWhen.
These tools would give you an indication of when to tweet. They can’t be taken as Gospel. It’s only a rough idea of when you are most likely to get engagement. Of course there will be odd days here and there that you may get higher engagement levels than normal.
