Video marketing is a great way to develop cool content that solves your customers’ problems/needs in a focused way. It gives the personal touch as people can see you and it’s the next best thing to a face to face meeting. Videos are a great way to humanise your brand and to generate leads.
If you’re like me, you may be out of the office a lot and may not have time to shoot in a studio with a professional camera and/or camera crew, and you certainly may be so busy that you don’t have time to edit videos on a PC/Mac. The iPhone 4 (and above) has a HD camera – that’s perfect for quick content tips like this.
Here is how to quickly create YouTube videos from your iPhone:
1. Make It Short:
Videos should be as short as possible anyway as people want to consume information quickly. Of course there will be some videos that are longer but the majority should be 30-90 seconds.
Keep your material very short and succinct. Try and give one tip per video as opposed to 5 or 6. Shorter videos with focused content will get more views and shares as it is ‘easy to consume’ content.
2. One Take Wonder:
As you are doing a short video, you now have the opportunity to rattle it off in one take. This will save you any editing. You might need a few takes to get it right (like I do). Persist until you get one take that you are happy with.
3. Edit The Video:
The iPhone has many video editing apps. I like to use Splice. It’s free, simple, easy to use and quick.
Once you have installed the app and shot your video, it’s now time to edit it together.
Splice has some default settings for the video orientation and quality as shown below. These are the best settings for YouTube videos from your iPhone.
Next you come to the editing part. As you can see you have three options. I usually start with a picture of my company logo, transition into the video, then transition to a title with a clear call to action (CTA) e.g. ‘SUBSCRIBE’ or ‘Visit www.finishercreative.com’.
You do have an option to include music in your video. You just have to put your music into your iTunes and import it easily from there. Once you have edited the video together, Splice will automatically export the high resolution video into your iPhone’s Camera Roll.
4. Send Your Video To YouTube:
Go to your Camera Roll and access the exported video. Tap the video once to bring up some options and click the bottom left hand corner icon (sending icon). You will then get this screen:
Simply click the ‘Send To Youtube’ button where you will then be presented with this screen:
Simply fill in the information and your video will then be processed and live on YouTube within minutes.
NB: HD quality videos will require Wifi to upload to YouTube. Also when tagging your videos from your phone you can only tag one word at a time as opposed to short phrases. I would recommend you access your YouTube channel later from a desktop and alter your tags accordingly.

Very interesting, wonder if you can do this on iPad or an Adnroid phone?
Posted by Shaun | September 20, 2012, 11:13Hey Shaun,
I assume you can on the iPad 2 and upwards.
Android – I’m not too sure about though. Are you an Android user?
Posted by finishercreative | September 20, 2012, 13:28Yeah, had an iPhone 3 but decided to go for a change and now have the Samsung Galaxy S2 which I love.
Have an iPad 2 so i’ll check out that app tonight.
