Facebook is awesome! It’s a great way to build a good solid fan base who are excited about your brand, and to share great information with them! (You can connect with my Facebook page here).
A lot of people can get overwhelmed by this social media juggernaut and not have a clue where to begin.
Here is how to get started on Facebook:
1. What’s Your Plan?:
If you’re using Facebook for business then it’s important to understand that Facebook is a tool for achieving a business goal. In order to know what the goal is, you have to refer to your marketing plan/strategy. In a basic online marketing plan, your website is the central element and everything else revolves around the website. Check out this video on the basic anatomy of an online marketing plan. Whatever your goal is, you will inevitably try to drive traffic from Facebook to your website.
2. Set Up A Personal Profile:
In order to have a look around Facebook you have to have at least a personal profile. (You can’t set up a Facebook business page without a personal profile.) Setting up a personal profile is really easy. Simply follow the instructions on Facebook’s website.
3. LIKE Your Favourite Brands:
Once you’re set, search for your favourite brands and ‘like’ their business pages. Once you do this you will receive their updates in your personal news feed.
4. Listen:
We have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Listening is so important in life – and the online world is no different. Facebook has a language and a culture. It’s important for you to look at the brands you’ve ’liked’ and notice how they talk, share and interact with their customers. Notice how techniques in how they share links, videos etc; frequency of posts; how many likes and comments they get etc; their tone – professional or laid back? All of these will give you a flavour of the Facebook culture.
5. Set Up Your Facebook Business Page:
Once you have a personal profile set up it’s super simple to set up a business page. Follow Facebook’s simple instructions for setting up and you’re on your way!
6. Post!
Once you feel comfortable that you’ve soaked in the culture and that you understand how Facebook operates, get posting! Remember – don’t be just a broadcasting service. Engage with your followers. Be human. Have conversations.
