We had a chat with Peter about how his business uses social media and online marketing for his business. The things that have worked and what he doesn’t like about these tools.
1. Is Social Media important to your business?
Yes. It gives me a relatively low-cost access to raise awareness of my services to a broad range of people and to engage with a number of like-minded individuals who can refer my services to others.
2. What has the been your biggest success using SM or emarketing?
Having trouble measuring real return on investment. However, I can see if anyone who requests my services are active on social media. Around 80% of people who request my services are on either LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter. Around 80% of my enquiries come from people who “do not know me”. SM and marketing in general has definitely increased leads and ultimately sales. This year will be my best and I am sure that SMM has been a part of that success.
3. Do you think SM and emarketing is important for SMEs to use?
Any kind of marketing is essential for lead generation and raising awareness of products. SM Is one area that needs to be considered. I think that SMM is more readily accepted in B2C rather than B2B markets but I think that is slowly changing. Also I believe that if you can get people to RT your content then Google sees this as a vote of confidence in what you are saying.
4. What do you think are SM best practices?
Engage with people. Provide relevant interesting content from not only your own sources but that of your competitors too. People appreciate that you are trying to help them and are not only using the medium as a broadcast tool.
5. What annoys the hell out of you about SM users?
SPAM SPAM AND SPAM. Automated and scheduled Tweets annoy me. If we all automated our tweets then no one would be listening!
